One of the issues the committee is grappling with is drilled in (to concrete or masonary) anchors in tension. At present, the Aust Std and the ARAA Industry Code specifically says only a small amount of axial tension is allowed in an anchor installation.
This is based on experience of failures - there is no question about the quality of the anchors made by companies such as Hilti but some BIG questions abnout the quality of installations and of the substrate.
One thing we are considering is the possibility of developing a course and a ticket for installation of drilled in anchors (even those NOT axially loaded) - if this were in place it would proved greater confidence on the quality of the install.
What do YOU think - would you be willing to undertake training and be ticketted to be authorised to install anchors used to suspend personell from? |
